Recently Regional Power has teamed up Vancouver Aboriginal Skills Employment Partnership (VanAsep) and Sechelt First Nation to train operators for hydro projects.
The Power Plant Operator Training Program is a three-part, 18-week program with additional practical training designed to provide entry-level workers with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to become safe and effective Power Plant Operators on run-of-river projects.
Students are first taught the essential skills in a 6-week training course to prepare them for practical work experience. Industry will select and hire foundation program graduates for a 3–6 month practicum for on the job learning and assessment.
The practicum is followed by an additional 12-week technical foundation training to further develop the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience of the students to become fully capable in the operations of a power plant.
Regional Power values the role that academic institutes can play in support of private enterprise.
We continuously employ on rotation Engineering Student Interns, sponsor a research project at the WindEEE lab of University of Western Ontario, maintain contact with researchers from University of Waterloo, McMaster University, Queen’s University and Sheridan College and are open to collaboration with other academic institutions.
